Hey folks! This is Kolten from Next Gen Remodels.

Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.

Today's question is:

"How do you keep homeowners informed and the project moving so they always know what's coming next?"

Summary:

Kolten emphasizes direct, real-time communication as the way he keeps projects on track. Homeowners have his phone number directly, and the team communicates by text; if both partners in a household want to stay informed simultaneously, he sets up a group chat. Whenever something unexpected arises, he relays the information immediately and lets the homeowner make the decision. He illustrates this with a real change-order example: on a master bathroom, the crew discovered plumbing that had been installed illegally, including shark-bite fittings used inside the wall where they aren't permitted. He explained to the homeowner that it all needed to be removed, otherwise the company couldn't warranty its work. The homeowner agreed to move forward, the problem was resolved, and the job was completed properly, showing how transparent communication drives sound decisions.

Answer:

Anytime we run into anything, you have my number directly. So we talk via text, or if you and your partner want to be informed at the exact same time, we'll put a group chat together. That way, anytime anything comes up, we relay that information to you via text and give you the opportunity to make the decision on the project. So if there's a change order, say something comes up where maybe some plumbing was illegally done in an addition, we let you know. I'm speaking from an example here: we ran into some plumbing on a master bathroom that was illegally done. They had shark bite fittings and all sorts of stuff that you're not allowed to use in the wall. We told them, hey, we need to rip all this out, otherwise we can't warranty some of the work we're doing here. They ended up moving forward with that, and that solved the problem, and we were able to get everything done properly.
