Hey folks! This is Kolten from Next Gen Remodels.

Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.

Today's question is:

"How does a remodel affect the energy efficiency of my home?"

Answer

It depends on the remodel we're doing. So let's say, uh, you're looking to upgrade your windows. Windows are very, very much energy efficient or energy deficient. If you have gaps in the windows and they're not properly installed correctly or you have old windows that are cracking and failing, you're gonna have very non-efficient windows, right? Because air, cold air is going in and your house isn't staying warm during the winter, or warm air is going out. Uh, vice versa, cold air could be going out and getting the heat coming in during the summer. It all depends on how the windows are installed and what kind of windows we install. Each window is gonna have, uh, different energy efficiency, uh, ratings and also different, uh, thickness on glasses and amount of panes to the glass.

Summary

Effects depend on the remodel. For example, upgrading to new windows can greatly improve energy efficiency by preventing air gaps. Different windows have different energy efficiency ratings, glass thickness, and number of panes.
