Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.
Today's question is:
That is an excellent question. Primer is super specific. So anytime we're doing new fresh drywall where we've done taping, mudding, texture, always, always, always has to be primed. If you do not prime fresh drywall when you go to apply your paint, it's just gonna keep soaking the paint through and you're gonna end up using a lot more in paint material than what you should have.
Um, as far as certain applications, let's say you have old oil-based paint and you're looking to put some drywall on that oil-based paint, you have to put some primer on there first. Otherwise, drywall won't stick to your paint.
When asked if primer is used on every surface or only when needed for painting. Kolten redfield explained that primer is always required on fresh drywall to prevent excessive paint absorption and is also necessary when painting over old oil-based paint to ensure adhesion.
